Bird Harbor
Hey there… I’m Bird Harbor. Born in 2002, I’ve lived a life full of racing, raising 14 foals, and even seeing my grandfoals make headlines. But this—this is new. After losing my longtime caretakers, I’ve landed here at Mareworthy, and to be honest, I’m still figuring out what that means. The pastures look peaceful, the folks seem kind, and there’s a whisper in the wind that says I’ll be okay. I’ve always been strong, but maybe now’s the time to find a little softness too. It’s a fresh start, and while I’m not quite settled, I’m hopeful that this is where I’ll find the comfort and care I’ve been needing.

Empress Luciana
Greetings! I’m Empress Luciana, a regal mare with a gentle soul. I was retired from breeding after needing a c-section to deliver my first and only foal. My former owners made the responsible choice to prioritize my health, and that’s how I found my way to Mareworthy. Now, I live a peaceful life, grateful for the care and respect I receive every day.

Furthermore
Hi there, I’m Furthermore, a bay beauty born in 2013. I was responsibly retired to Mareworthy after my foals didn’t race quite as well as my owners had hoped. The plan was for me to find a new home quickly, but life had other plans. During my initial veterinary check-ups, they discovered I had a fractured coffin bone and an ethmoid hematoma. So, I’ve been taking it easy, getting plenty of TLC, soaking up all the love and kindness here at Mareworthy.

Nhlosane
Hey y’all, I’m Nhlosane—though my friends call me Nelly! Born in 2005 in Kentucky, I’ve had quite the journey. I never raced, but I raised four foals before life took a few unexpected turns. After being rescued by a kind individual who cared for me for over a year, she reached out to Mareworthy when she needed help ensuring my long-term safety. That’s when my fresh start began. I made the trip from Oklahoma to Kentucky in January 2025, settling in like a pro. Now, I’m getting to know my new herd, enjoying lots of TLC, and feeling grateful every day for the second chance Mareworthy gave me.

Northern Deputy
Mark my words, I’m Northern Deputy—a wise old mare with plenty of miles and stories under my belt. Life led me down some rough roads, but I found my way to Mareworthy, where I can finally rest easy. I savor the slower pace, the chatter of young ones, and the peace of these pastures, grateful for this second chance.

Queen Thief
Well, hello there. I’m Queen Thief, born in 2003 in Kentucky, and I’m still finding my footing here at Mareworthy. It’s been quite the journey—after spending years with Marylou Whitney Stables, life changed when Marylou and then John passed away. Now, I find myself in a new chapter, surrounded by unfamiliar faces but with a flicker of hope in my heart. I’ve raised six foals and carried a quiet grace through it all. I’m not sure what to expect just yet, but something tells me this might be the place where I can finally rest easy, steal a few hearts, and maybe—just maybe—find my own sense of home.

Secret Paradise
¡Hola! I’m Secret Paradise, a fierce, sassy mare born in 2010. I went to Puerto Rico as a yearling and ran all 162 of my races there. Life on the track was tough, but Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare (CTA) stepped in to help me find a second chance. They entrusted me to Mareworthy, where I’ve been living my best life ever since—full of sass, sunshine, and freedom.

Spanish Flower
My dearest friends, I’m Spanish Flower, a graceful mare who’s been through more than my fair share. I was rescued from a kill pen, emaciated and in poor health. But Mareworthy believed in me, nursed me back to health, and gave me the love I’d been missing. Now, I bloom again, surrounded by kindness and care.

Stowaway Lass
Hi, I’m Stowaway Lass, born right here at Mareworthy in 2024! I was a surprise package—my mama, Vee, was pregnant with me when she was rescued from a kill pen. Thanks to Mareworthy, we both got a second chance. Now, I’m growing up strong and curious, surrounded by love and the best family a filly could ask for.

Vee
Hey there, fam! I’m Vee, born in 2007, a proud mama of eight foals. Life took a hard turn when I ended up in a kill pen, pregnant with my daughter, Stowaway Lass. But Mareworthy found me, and with the support of my old racing connections—who hadn’t seen me in over 12 years but still cared—I was rescued. Now, I cherish every day with my filly by my side, safe and sound.

Worthy of Wings
Dearest friends, I’m Worthy of Wings, the namesake of Mareworthy. I raced 87 times in the mainland U.S. before being exported to Puerto Rico, where I ran another 51 races. At age 13, Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare (CTA) worked with my racing connections to retire me from racing and entrusted me to Mareworthy’s founder. Together, we competed in the 2019 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover, an experience that inspired the founding of Mareworthy. Now, I spend my days surrounded by love, reflecting on the journey that led me here, and inspiring others to see the worth in every life.
Join the Mission to Help Us Protect Thoroughbred Broodmares!
At Mareworthy Charities, we're on a mission to rescue and care for Thoroughbred mares in need, but we can't do it alone. Your support is crucial in ensuring these magnificent creatures live a life of love and dignity.

Every dollar counts! With just $5 a month, you can make a real difference. Your contribution directly helps us cover the monthly expenses for each mare in our care which makes it possible for us to allocate additional dollars to expanding our efforts.
The average cost for each mare at the farm (including grain, hay, veterinary care, and more) is $792.92. Currently, that's over $8,000 per month in expenses, and we receive approximately $2,000 per month in recurring donations. Our founders have been covering financial shortfalls, but that limits our impact. With your help, we can ensure Mareworthy thrives. Let's bridge the financial gap and secure a strong future for Mareworthy and the mares we support.
